Munnar is basically a tea plantation town in Kerala located near the Kerala- Tamil Nadu border. The town is based on the confluence of three rivers namely Madurapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala. Munnar is at an approx distance of 500 km from Bangalore. The place has varieties to offer to the tourists apart from its fascinating weather. The nearest airport to Munnar is Coimbatore and Kochi airport. You can take a cab, bus or drive yourself from both the airports to the town once you land. From Kochi airport it’s a 3 hour drive, at a distance of about 100kms in the midway towns that lead you to come across Kalady, Perumbavoor, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Perumbavoor, adimali and then finally your destination Munnar. From Coimbatore airport it’s a 5hour drive almost 160km. The time may exceed depending on the road conditions and specially if its monsoon going on you should take some extra time for consideration. Regarding flights there are almost 10 direct flights from Cochin to Bangalore and Coimbatore leads 2 direct flights in the day time.
About reaching Bangaloreto Munnar by rail you will have to look up for the same itinerary service from Coimbatore or Ernakulum. These are the closest railway stations leading to Munnar. There are 3 daily trains from Bangalore to Coimbatore- train number 1013(the Coimbatore express), train number6526 (the kanyakumari express) and train number 2677(the Ernakulum express). And then the above mentioned road connection to Munnar will follow. Te kanyakumari express and Ernakulum express will lead you to the Ernakulum town and if you don’t wish to visit this place you can get down at angamali or aluva that is ahead of Ernakulum station and can save almost 30 km.
For Reaching Bangaloreto Munnar by road there are number of private and government buses that run directly from Coimbatore to Munnar. If you don’t get a direct bus from Coimbatore you can reach udumalpet by bus and then take a bus for Munnar bus stand. It hardly takes 1.5 to 2 hours via bus from Coimbatore to udumalpet and there are many frequent buses as well. And from udumalpet to Munnar it’s a 3.5 hours journey.
